Save a frame from a video

Pause at the exact moment and save that frame as a picture at full size, sharper than a screenshot.

Open a file

Pick a video or audio file, or drop one here. It stays on your device.

Or download a video first, then choose Make a GIF, clip or transcript.

How it works

  1. Open a file

    Open a video.

  2. Choose

Play or drag to the moment you want, and pause.

  3. Save

Tap Save this frame to get a PNG.

Better than a screenshot

A screenshot captures your screen, with the player's buttons, at your screen's size. A saved frame comes straight from the video at its real resolution: a 1080p video gives a 1920 by 1080 picture with nothing on top.

PNG keeps every pixel, so the picture does not get blurrier each time it is shared or edited.

Getting the exact moment

Pause close to the moment, then drag the position slowly back and forth until the picture is the one you want. The frame saved is exactly what the player shows.

Fast movement is blurred in the video itself, so a frame from the middle of a quick action will look soft. A moment where things are still gives the sharpest picture.

Questions

What size is the picture?
The same as the video: 1920 by 1080 for a 1080p video, 1280 by 720 for 720p.
Can I get a frame from an online video?
Save the video with DropVid first, then open it here. The thumbnail option on the download page also saves the video's cover picture.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The frame is taken in your browser.
