Video to MP3

Take the sound out of a video you already have and save it as an MP3, all of it or only the part you need.

Open a file

Pick a video or audio file, or drop one here. It stays on your device.

Or download a video first, then choose Make a GIF, clip or transcript.

How it works

  1. Open a file

    Open a video file.

  2. Choose

Keep the whole length, or set where the audio starts and ends.

  3. Save

Tap Make MP3, then save it.

When this is useful

A voice note someone sent as a video. A lecture or a talk you want to listen to on the bus. The audio of a family video for a slideshow. Any time the picture does not matter, an MP3 is a fraction of the size.

Quality

The MP3 is encoded at 192 kbps, which sounds the same as the original for speech and music on phone speakers and most headphones. A minute of audio is about 1.4 MB.

An MP3 cannot sound better than the video it came from. If the video was recorded quietly or with a lot of noise, the MP3 will be too.

Audio from a link instead of a file

If the video is on TikTok, SoundCloud, X or another site DropVid supports, paste the link on the home page and choose Audio only. That saves the audio directly and counts as one of your free downloads. This page is for files you already have, and it is always free.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser. You can switch off your internet once the editor has loaded and it still works.
Can I cut a part out?
Yes. Set the start and end times before you make the MP3.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. Very long videos may stop on older iPhones because the whole file has to fit in memory.
